Laser Hair Removal Marina del Rey
If you are reading this, you probably have hair in places you wish you didn’t. Laser hair removal is the next generation method to rid your body of unwanted hair. Most people are familiar with the many options available to rid the hair you don’t want. We are all familiar with shaving, depilatories (also called chemical epilation, like Nair), waxing (putting hot wax on the hair and ripping it off, like the “40 Year Old Virgin Movie”, tweezing (plucking), and electrolysis (placing an electric charged needle into individual hair follicles and burning them one by one).
Until recently, the only method for permanent hair reduction was electrolysis. While this method worked, it is very time consuming and painful. Furthermore, large areas like legs, backs, ab trails were nearly impossible due to the size of the area.
While there are many different kinds of lasers used for hair removal, at Clear Medical, we use the Lumenis Lightsheer™ diode laser, it uses a single wavelength (810nm) laser, is FDA approved for permanent hair reduction as well as “pseudofolliculitis barbae” (razor bumps/ingrown hairs). This is considered by most as the “gold standard” for laser hair removal.

How does Laser Hair Removal Work?
The laser targets the color pigment (melanin), which is highly concentrated at the hair shaft during the active hair growth cycle (anagen). Laser energy is absorbed by the hair follicle and destroyed.
Why does it take multiple sessions?
Our hair is in one of three different phases at any given time, anagen (active), catagen, and telogen (resting). Only hair in the anagen phase is affected by the laser.
How long does each treatment take?
Treatment times vary based on the location: for example between the eyebrows (the uni-brow) takes 5 minutes, while a male back takes up to an hour.
Is it Painful?
While few patients report “pain” most compare it to “rubber-bands snapping on the skin.” At Clear we take every step to assure your comfort, such as applying a topical anesthetic cream for those who find the treatments uncomfortable.
What can I expect after treatment?
Most patients see redness, much like a mild sunburn. This usually lasts about 3-5 hours based on skin type and area treated.
Is there any downtime?
No, most patients resume regular activity immediately after treatment. Many patients do it on their lunch hour.
