effective and long-lasting hair removal

There are many options available to reduce and remove body hair. Shaving, depilatories (also called chemical epilation), waxing, tweezing, and electrolysis are all considered acceptable methods to achieve hairless silky smooth skin.

However, the only procedure for permanent hair reduction that is considered to deliver fast, long-lasting and optimal results is laser hair removal.

Patients say they see the highest level of hair reduction with laser hair removal in comparison to other procedures. Electrolysis, in particular, which is considered the only other type of permanent hair removal, needs multiple sessions of treatment and can be painful.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Your hair is in one of three different phases at any given time, anagen (active), catagen, and telogen (resting). Only hair in the anagen phase is affected by the laser hair removal process.

A specialized laser is used to target the color pigment (melanin), which is highly concentrated at the hair shaft during the active hair growth cycle (anagen). Laser energy is absorbed by the hair and the follicle, causing it to be destroyed.

Treatment times vary based on the location of the unwanted hair: for example, between the eyebrows (the unibrow) takes 5 minutes, while a male back takes up to 30 minutes. Typically patients can have their laser hair removal treatment during their lunch hour.

Laser hair removal is considered relatively painless in comparison to electrolysis. Many people equate the treatment to the feeling of snapping a rubber band against the skin.

At Clear Medical we take every step to assure your comfort, such as applying a topical anesthetic cream for those patients who find the treatments uncomfortable.

Sessions are fast and the majority of patients find the process easy and painless. Most patients resume regular activity immediately after treatment.

With the exception of the eyelashes, laser hair removal can be performed on any part of the body. The procedure is especially ideal for the back and bikini area, which can be hard to reach with razors and extremely painful to wax.

Shaving, waxing, and other methods of hair removal can also cause ingrown hairs. By destroying the hair at the root, there is less chance for hairs to grow back curling inwards which causes ingrown hairs and the possibility of infection.

Laser hair removal also requires no regrowth between sessions unlike waxing and plucking. With laser hair removal, you can enjoy smooth, hair-free skin at all times.

Laser hair removal is considered the most effective and fastest method to remove unwanted hair.

The Premier Laser Hair Removal Specialist in Marina del Rey

Unlike laser centers, at Clear Medical your treatment is carried out by a medical doctor. Dr. Abrishamy and his team collectively have years of experience in laser hair removal.

While there are many different kinds of lasers used for hair removal, at Clear Medical we use two different types. The diode laser uses a single wavelength (810nm) laser and is FDA approved for permanent hair reduction as well as “pseudofolliculitis barbae” (razor bumps/ingrown hairs).

We also use the Alexandrite laser system, which is the fastest method for laser hair removal, making it ideal for treating larger areas. The wavelength of this type of laser is longer than other systems, making it effective on a wider range of skin types, from light skin tones to black skin tones.

Other Methods of Hair Removal

There are a variety of ways to remove facial hair and body hair and there are pros and cons to each method. Alternative hair removal methods are effective options for different reasons, but laser hair removal treatment is the preferred method for people seeking a long-term solution.
