How does Laser Hair Removal Santa Monica Work?

        The laser targets the color pigment (melanin), which is highly concentrated at the hair shaft during the active hair growth cycle (anagen). Laser energy is absorbed by the hair follicle and destroyed.  

Why does it take multiple sessions?

        Our hair is in one of three different phases at any given time, anagen (active), catagen, and telogen (resting). Only hair in the anagen phase is affected by the laser.

 

How long does each treatment take?

 

        Treatment times vary based on the location: for example between the eyebrows (the uni-brow) takes 5 minutes, while a male back takes up to an hour.
 

Is it Painful?

        While few patients report "pain" most compare it to "rubber-bands snapping on the skin." At Clear we take every step to assure your comfort, such as applying a topical anesthetic cream for those who find the treatments uncomfortable.  
 

What can I expect after treatment?

        Most patients see redness, much like a mild sunburn. This usually lasts about 3-5 hours based on skin type and area treated.
 

Is there any downtime?

        No, most patients resume regular activity immediately after treatment.  Many patients do it on their lunch hour.
